Folk remedies from viburnum for the heart and blood vessels: recipe for tincture with honey

Viburnum is a shrub with red berries and white inflorescences that are popular in folk and traditional medicine. The secret to the demand for berries is the presence of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants necessary for a healthy lifestyle. The beneficial properties of viburnum have been carefully studied at the world level; Studies have shown that constant consumption of this berry reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal problems and other diseases. Viburnum berries prevent the occurrence of cancer and fight possible complications when bearing babies.

There are contraindications: you must consult a specialist (doctor).

Useful properties of viburnum

There are six scientifically proven facts about the benefits of viburnum.

  1. Ideal composition.
    Despite the fact that this is a low-calorie product, it is very rich in vitamins and minerals. It also contains a lot of tannins, essential oils, phytoncides, pectin, and iodine. In terms of the presence of iron, vital for hematopoiesis, it is compared to blueberries and rose hips.
  2. Antioxidant effect.
    Viburnum contains a large amount of antioxidants that block the effects of free radicals at the cellular level. Due to free radicals, malignant formations arise, diseases develop in the endocrine system, and early aging of the skin and the body as a whole occurs.
  3. Decreased blood pressure.
    Back in 1972, scientists discovered the ability of viburnum to naturally dilate arterial vessels by relaxing smooth muscles. It is worth considering that the berry has a weak hypotensive effect and can be used for prevention in the early stages of the development of hypertension.
  4. Fighting cancer.
    An important beneficial property of red viburnum is its pronounced effect on the growth of tumors, especially cancerous ones. During experiments, it was discovered that its components not only suppress the occurrence of dangerous neoplasms, but even lead to their death. Viburnum is allowed to be consumed together with medications, since the berry enhances their medicinal properties and reduces the harm from drug treatment.
  5. Benefit for women.
    Another healing property of viburnum for endometriosis, cysts, and dysmenoria, which often bother women: the berry “works” effectively for problems with the menstrual cycle.
    Therefore, it is recommended in minimal doses for pregnant women: it helps to cope with severe toxic manifestations, protects against miscarriage both early and late. Plus, viburnum lowers blood pressure and minimizes the risk of eclampsia. With its help, the expectant mother can strengthen not only her own immunity, but also that of her child. Before consuming it, a pregnant woman should definitely consult with her supervising gynecologist.
  6. Increase in hemoglobin.
    The unique ability of this miracle berry is that it can increase the number of red blood cells, thereby increasing the level of hemoglobin in the blood. Doctors recommend that people suffering from anemia take viburnum in different forms.

What other foods should you include in your diet?

Viburnum fruits are not the only remedy for combating cardiac dysfunction. There are many products that can improve the rhythm of the heart and strengthen its muscles, as well as cleanse blood vessels. Products that have a positive effect on the condition of blood vessels and the heart include:

  1. Avocado. This exotic fruit contains fatty acids that the heart needs to maintain the correct rhythm and strengthen it.
  2. Grapefruit. This fruit is filled with glycosides, that is, substances that give the fruit a bitter taste and at the same time strengthen the heart muscle and cleanse blood vessels.
  3. Pomegranate. Biostimulants and natural enzymes in its composition have a positive effect on the functioning of the circulatory system and protect against heart diseases.
  4. Cereals. Cereals containing excess fiber can remove excess cholesterol and improve heart rhythm.

Composition and calorie content of berries

There are only 26 calories in 100 grams of the product - this is a very low figure, which means that it is impossible to gain weight with viburnum berries. They contain essential vitamins A, B5, B9, C, and also contain a lot of vitamin K: 98 percent of the daily dose. Plus they have a lot of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, iron and manganese. In addition, medicinal viburnum is rich in polyphenolic compounds, which are known for their antioxidant activity, so the berries are recommended to be used for the prevention of most chronic heart and vascular diseases. Viburnum juice owes its specific sour taste to the presence of formic, oleic and acetic acids. The berry seeds themselves, more often called seeds, are rich in fatty oils, which also have a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Medicinal properties of viburnum

Healers and healers have known the beneficial properties of red viburnum for a very long time. Their recipes for tinctures and compresses have come down to us thanks to numerous medical books of antiquity. So, for example, the bark of this shrub was soaked and infused to create medicines that had healing powers for liver and kidney diseases, complaints about gastrointestinal tract functions, suffocation, and were also used as an antispasmodic agent.

Decoctions were considered a natural antibiotic that could have anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. This is a truly proven folk remedy in the fight against colds and infectious diseases. It helps with chest cough, hoarseness, and high body temperature.

Indeed, this berry has various beneficial properties, including:

  • anti-inflammatory, antipyretic effect;
  • sedative, calming effect;
  • tonic, restorative effect;
  • wound healing, hemostatic, antiseptic effect;
  • increased appetite;
  • antiviral, antispasmodic effect.

Plant composition

Viburnum is so saturated with substances beneficial to health that it can cope with, perhaps, any ailment.

It contains:

  • vitamins C, E, K, group B;
  • carotene;
  • organic acids;
  • tannins;
  • flavonoids;
  • catechins;
  • fatty acid;
  • sucrose;

The highest concentration of these components is in fruits and bark, from which medicinal products are prepared.

Viburnum in traditional medicine

Berries are used to treat edema, hypertensive pathologies, neuroses, anacid gastritis, as well as respiratory and skin diseases. Dermatologists and cosmetologists use freshly squeezed juice against acne, pimples, pigmentation on the face, to treat wounds and eczema. In traditional medicine, the fruits are widely used as a tonic and health booster. The berries have shown themselves well in the fight against skin blemishes - boils, ulcers, eczema.

Apply juice compresses to problem areas for 1–2 hours. After two weeks, it is important to take a break for seven days, then repeat the procedure. For a successful and permanent result, two to four courses may be required. Drinking half a liter of pure juice daily also helps with eczema. It is not for nothing that drugs with viburnum extract are prescribed to patients all over the world.

Viburnum in folk medicine

Since the berries stay fresh for a long time if frozen, people stock up on them in advance. Thanks to freezing, the bitterness of the berries is reduced, but the benefits remain. Also in folk medicine they are consumed dried, which helps to contract the heart muscles and increase urine output. The benefits of tincture of viburnum flowers are also widely known; it is used internally as an antipyretic. It is recommended for men as an active aid in the painless functioning of the reproductive and excretory systems.

Treatment of cardiac arrhythmia with folk remedies

    AAA

Traditional medicine recipes for arrhythmia and other heart diseases.

Sometimes it seems to you that your heart is skipping a beat, but the next minute it is ready to jump out of your chest? You may be suffering from arrhythmia. If the heart “makes itself known” on the eve of an important event, this is considered the norm. If your heart skips a beat or beats wildly for no reason, it’s worth thinking about.

There are several types of arrhythmia. Many of them are absolutely safe and occur in completely healthy people. However, if in your usual environment you feel weakness, pressure or pain in the chest, dizziness, lightheadedness or shortness of breath, do not self-medicate and consult a cardiologist. By performing a cardiogram, the doctor will determine whether you have an arrhythmia. Treatment of the disease depends on the degree and severity of the threat to life, as well as the type of arrhythmia.

If drug treatment does not bring the desired result, surgery is recommended. The most effective surgical treatment for arrhythmia is radiofrequency ablation. During the operation, the surgeon makes a puncture in the vessel, after which a catheter is inserted into the heart, which accurately determines the source of the arrhythmia. The doctor then inserts another catheter, which uses radiofrequency current to destroy the danger zone. Heart function returns to normal, although this operation is not recommended for all patients.

Drug intervention alone is not enough to treat arrhythmia. No matter how reliable modern drugs are, a healthy lifestyle has not been canceled. There are provocateurs of arrhythmia, and these include alcohol, smoking and coffee. To maintain heart health, try to engage in “light” sports: Pilates, swimming, yoga, race walking, cycling. Don't forget about proper nutrition and healthy diets.

By the way, vegetarians have the healthiest hearts. The fact is that the human heart “loves” foods such as baked potatoes, dried apricots, bananas and raisins, because they contain a large amount of potassium. If you use herbal medicine in your treatment, be careful. Some people find valerian root helpful in treating arrhythmia, while others benefit from hawthorn, so be sure to consult your doctor before using herbs. To make your heart feel better, try to avoid stressful situations, don’t stress yourself out and don’t get worked up over trifles. Try to remain calm, and breathing exercises and meditation can help you with this.

Healing tea for tingling heart

I always harvest heather (stems with flowers) for myself. It improves heart function, relieves cerebral vascular spasms, and calms the nervous system. 1 tbsp. crushed dry grass, pour 0.5 liters of boiling water, boil for 15 minutes. I insist for two hours. I drink it like tea.

The second healing drink is multi-component. I mix 10 g of lemon balm herb, St. John's wort, motherwort and birch leaves and 30 g of fireweed herb. 1 tbsp. dry raw materials, pour 300 ml of boiling water, leave for 20 minutes.

I also stock up on buckwheat flowers. 1 tbsp. flowers, I brew 0.5 liters of boiling water, leave for two hours and drink 0.5-1 tbsp. 3-4 times a day. This tea tastes very good and is good for the heart.

But the most important thing is to strengthen your heart. To do this, I mix 2 tbsp. chopped onion peels and ground dry rose hips and 5 tbsp. finely chopped pine needles from young branches. Pour 1 liter of boiling water and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes. I insist for two hours. I drink 1 tbsp. three times a day for a month (you can drink longer).

I resort to these remedies as needed, when my heart makes itself felt with tingling or irregular rhythm. As soon as I start drinking healing infusions and teas, within a week I feel an improvement.

Peppermint

. This plant is one of the most effective remedies used to treat heart rhythm disorders. 1 tsp crushed leaves pour 1 tbsp. boiling water, leave for an hour in a warm place, strain. Lofant for the heart

My loved ones have repeatedly experienced the healing properties of lofant. Thanks to the infusion of lofant, my husband coped with hypertension and arrhythmia.

This infusion helps everyone in our family with any ailment or fatigue. But after taking it, rest for 30-40 minutes is necessary.

2 tsp herbs pour 1 liter of boiling water. Infuse and drink warm or hot throughout the day, always with honey and lemon.

Lofant infusion strengthens the immune system, restores strength after a serious illness, and is successfully used for nervous and cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and tremors of the limbs. No wonder they say: “Lofant in the garden - the heart is in order!”

Mead for arrhythmia

One day, after doing a good job at the dacha, I felt pain in my heart. I checked my pulse - arrhythmia. I took a few drops of Corvalol, put a Validol tablet under my tongue and lay down. An hour later the rhythm was restored. This is how atrial fibrillation made itself known for the first time.

From then on, you have to work a lot, worry, and your heart fails. There were cases when even at night, in complete peace, an attack of arrhythmia began. I began to worry about dizziness, heaviness in the heart, and hypertension.

I once read about a unique ancient recipe for making “mead” for hypertension and arrhythmia.

I prepare my “mead” from two compositions. For the first one, I mix 500 g of natural honey (preferably May honey) and vodka. Then, stirring constantly, I heat the mixture over moderate heat until a solid “milk” foam forms on the surface, after which I remove it from the stove and let it brew.

For the second composition, in 1 liter of boiling water, I drop a pinch of motherwort, cudweed, knotweed, chamomile and crushed valerian root and leave for 30 minutes. After straining the broth through several layers of gauze, I mix both compositions and put them in a warm place for three days.

In the first week I drink 1 tsp. morning and evening, and subsequently - 1 tbsp. twice a day at the same time. Having used up the entire mixture, I take a break for seven days, then prepare a new portion of “mead” and continue the treatment.

Now it’s as if the heart has been replaced: it works rhythmically, without failures. If earlier arrhythmia made itself felt even with the smallest physical exertion, now this is not the case. My heart adequately withstood the severe stress conditions that I had to endure.

Viburnum berries restored heart rhythm

I cured my husband of arrhythmia with viburnum berries.

Need 3 tbsp. Pour the berries into a three-liter jar, pour 2 liters of boiling water, close the lid, wrap and leave for six hours. Strain the infusion, rub the berries through a sieve with a wooden spoon and mix with the infusion in an enamel pan, add honey to taste. Keep refrigerated.

My husband drank 1/3 tbsp. three times a day before meals. I completed three monthly courses of treatment with ten-day breaks and got rid of arrhythmia.

Universal heart recipe

A few years ago my heart began to play pranks. The diagnosis was hypertension, accompanied by tachycardia and arrhythmia. For more than six months, I alternated between intravenous drips and pills, and after discontinuation, everything returned to its original state. I had to look for other methods of treatment. As a result, I created a universal heart recipe for myself.

The basis of the collection is green tea (1 pinch per 1 tablespoon of mixture). It also includes rose hips (preferably berries or flowers), rowan fruits, mint leaves, lemon balm, lingonberries, St. John's wort, black currants, wild strawberries, woodlice grass, heather, fireweed, heads of meadow clover, rose petals.

Mix everything in equal quantities. 1 tbsp. Pour 400 ml of boiling water over the top of the mixture. Leave for 1.5-2 hours, strain. Drink 1/4 tbsp for three days. before meals.

If there is no negative reaction from the body (the state of the gastrointestinal tract should be taken into account), you can regularly drink 0.5 tbsp. 30 minutes before meals three times a day. Or two hours after eating, diluting with chilled boiled water to a full glass. You can also add honey.

Drink for three weeks, then take a break for 7-10 days. When the symptoms of the disease disappear, this recipe can be used for prevention for several days or a week.

Later I added hawthorn fruits to this mixture. You can also include other herbs in the collection. For example, for liver disease - immortelle, calendula, corn silk.

And if you are hypotensive, add a pinch of tea with a higher concentration of caffeine to green tea.

The main thing is that there are at least ten herbs in the collection. It promotes healing of the body after infectious diseases and surgical interventions, and strengthens strength.

Patients with disorders of the cardiovascular system, to whom I gave this recipe, got rid of many of the negative consequences of the disease. No side effects were observed.

I tried it on myself and my loved ones

The recipes I write about have been tried on myself and loved ones.

For a weak heart, it is useful to chew lemon peel, and also eat a large clove of garlic on an empty stomach (finely chop, put on a piece of black bread, add salt).

If you have arrhythmia, you should eat three kernels from prune (or apricot) seeds every day, and to improve heart function, on an empty stomach you should eat a mixture of two egg whites, beaten with 2 tsp. sour cream and 1 tsp. honey

Fir oil for cardiac arrhythmia

Fir oil helps me with arrhythmia: I rub it into the heart area just below the nipple for a month.

Since this oil contains biologically active substances, I also drink 5-6 drops of it once a day.

Tamara M.

Diet, nutrition and remedies

Grate 0.5 kg of lemons, mix with 0.5 kg of honey, add twenty crushed apricot kernels. Take one tablespoon before meals in the morning and evening.

A liquid extract of hawthorn is a healing aid in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Take 20-30 drops 3 times a day before meals.

Minimize the consumption of meat, sugar, baked goods, fried foods and completely eliminate starch and dairy products, tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages, and sauces.

It is good to take pumpkin juice mixed with honey. Drink it at night.

For heart disease, take 0.2 g of mumiyo for 10 days, 5 days off, 3-4 courses in total.

Daily consumption of nuts and raisins tones the nervous system, reduces fatigue, and strengthens the heart muscle.

No one could explain the reasons

I was diagnosed with arrhythmia in adulthood. Moreover, no one could really explain the reasons. I understand that, in general, my heart is under overload, and either stress is to blame, or I have poor nutrition, or I don’t move enough. Of course, they prescribed meds to support my heart muscle, but I was not used to relying only on doctors for my health. I decided to take myself seriously to strengthen my body. I studied the issue of arrhythmias inside and out, found all the useful herbs, found out everything about diet, the benefits of fresh air and physical exercise.

I had to readjust and change my daily routine. I started going to bed earlier, taking more walks, for which in the evening I simply walked to the park and did a couple of circles there, and then walked back home. I stopped overeating at night, and in general I tried to eat without overeating, since large amounts of food irritate the nerve responsible for heart impulses.

During a difficult period at work, I drank motherwort so that my nerves would not be too shaken. I didn’t even brew it, I just carried dry motherwort powder with me. I drank it 3 times a day on the tip of a knife, washed down with water, usually after meals.

I began to eat a lot of dried fruits, since the cardiologist ordered me to consume more potassium, and I especially fell in love with figs, which many traditional healers advise eating more often and in any form for heart palpitations.

On the advice of my cardiologist, I conducted a course of juice therapy.

Mixed beet, carrot and radish juices in equal parts. I drank a mixture of juices 2-3 times a day for several months in a row, but I started with literally a tablespoon, and then reached a glass.

I stopped eating anything that contained a lot of cholesterol, ate almost no salt, but began to eat any raw plant foods, as well as seaweed, all the time. With the doctor’s permission, I began to have fasting days once a week, as I suffer from obesity. But in order to avoid a lack of vitamins and minerals, I alternated apple, cottage cheese, kefir days, and once even had a peach day, in the fall - watermelon and melon, and in the winter - rice and potato.

In the summer, I ate all kinds of berries - in the garden I picked cherries straight from the trees, in the forest I picked blueberries, blueberries, lingonberries, as well as wild raspberries and wild strawberries. She ate strawberries and gooseberries, currants. This greatly improved the functioning of my heart, it was less likely to remind itself of itself by increasing heart rate, and the excessive fullness disappeared somewhere. I ate a lot of greens, and in the fall - zucchini from the garden, pumpkin, my own potatoes and carrots, beets. Now everyone is worried about the crisis, but those who have a garden don’t have to worry, but maintain their health with their vegetables, fruits, herbs, and berries. Make jam, roll cucumbers, make vegetable caviar for the winter. I think that in the summer and autumn, to help my heart, I will stock up on everything that is possible at my summer cottage, and my heart rate will always be even and calm.

Heart rhythm skips a beat at night or early in the morning

I will share with you my experience of suppressing arrhythmia attacks.

My mother is already 77 years old. Arrhythmia has been tormenting her for a long time. Every day she takes tinctures of hawthorn and valerian, drinks garlic tincture in courses, and follows a diet. Just 2 years ago, when arrhythmia appeared, we freed my mother from all household chores, put her to bed, and treatment began: calling an ambulance, injections, pills. Everything took 10-15 days, or even more. Several times my mother was treated in a hospital.

We noticed that the heart loses its rhythm at night or early in the morning, when a person is at rest, the muscles are relaxed, and breathing is slow. And all the work to ensure blood circulation falls on the heart. If the heart is weak, it is difficult for it to pump blood into the capillaries.

And now mom, as soon as the attack begins, immediately does self-massage: shakes her hands, rubs them from fingers to shoulder, also rubs the back of her head, the back of her neck, massages her ears, shakes her legs.

During the massage, mom walks around the apartment (no need to sit or lie). Energetically makes any massage movements that come to mind. The main thing is to start blood circulation in the capillaries to reduce the load on the heart.

As a rule, such events are enough for the rhythm to improve and the heart to beat evenly after half an hour. After exercise and massage, you feel weak and dizzy, as it takes a lot of energy. Therefore, we finish everything off with a hot foot bath and hot tea with hearty herbs. Then mom rests a little and begins to work around the house. After such events, the doctor never had to be called.

Infusion for arrhythmia with doctor's commentary

Thank God, I don’t have any pain in my heart, but from time to time I used to be bothered by arrhythmia. My heart suddenly began to flutter like a hare’s tail, just like it would jump out of my chest. I started taking herbal tincture, which very well normalizes heart rate and reduces shortness of breath.

In a thermos I mix 2 tsp. dried blackcurrant leaves, 1 tsp. wormwood inflorescences, 1 tsp. finely chopped rhizome of tea kopek and 2 tsp. petals of sainfoin inflorescences. Pour the resulting mixture into 1 tbsp. boiling water, close tightly and leave to infuse overnight (10-12 hours).

The next morning, I filter the resulting infusion and add boiled water so that the total volume of the infusion is 200 ml. I drink this infusion in small portions several times a day. The duration of treatment is a week, then a break of 4 days and again a weekly course of treatment. Then I repeat this course again after a four-day break.

I also took a mixture for which I took a glass of honey, walnuts and dried apricots, as well as 2 lemons with peel. I passed nuts, lemons and dried apricots through a meat grinder and added honey to this mass. I mixed everything thoroughly and got a liter jar of the healing mixture. I took it 1 tsp. three times a day and soon forgot about my arrhythmia.

Doctor's comment

The herbal infusion uses wormwood, the use of which is contraindicated during pregnancy and peptic ulcers. And to tea kopek, or as it is also called, red root, individual intolerance may occur: allergies, headaches, heaviness in the liver, swelling, nervousness, etc. In this case, taking the infusion should be stopped.

Marigolds help a lot

Rhythm disturbances (interruptions or sudden shocks - extrasystoles) arise as a result of endocrine disorders, neuroses, and cardiosclerosis.

Marigolds (calendula) help with arrhythmia. 2 tsp flowers pour 1 tbsp. boiling water, let it brew a little and drink 1/3 tbsp. three times a day.

More often prepare yourself teas with valerian root, mint, motherwort, lemon balm, tricolor violet, flowers or hawthorn fruits, which also have an antiarrhythmic effect.

If possible, include flower bee honey, nuts, raisins, dried apricots, apple cider vinegar, hard cheeses and cottage cheese in your diet. All these products are rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium, which means they strengthen the heart muscle and nervous system.

Mixture for tachycardia

For tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) I mixed 1 tbsp. honey, juice of four lemons without peel, minced, 18 almond grains and 16 leaves of potted geranium (pelargonium). I added 10 ml of valerian and hawthorn tinctures and 5-6 dry crushed camphor grains.

I took the mixture on an empty stomach once a day, 1 tbsp. in 15 minutes before meals, until the pulse returns to normal.

The problem is psychological

I often have rapid heartbeat. There are no changes on the cardiogram. The doctor says that I need to learn to manage my emotions and sends me to a psychologist. How can he help me?

Grinko T. G.

Penza

Female emotionality is a byword, just like typical male severity.

Almost from infancy, little girls, and then girls and women, share their troubles and experiences with each other, freeing their hearts from everything unnecessary. They more often pour out their own troubles on relatives and even on strangers. And this makes the female heart more resistant to disease. True, there is another problem: sometimes a woman does not know what she wants from life, and then she can begin to be capricious, demanding “something I don’t know what,” sending those around me “there, I don’t know where.” In such cases, there is a rapid heartbeat.

Usually capricious ladies suffer from tachycardia, as they themselves consider them “mysterious”. In fact, this is not a mystery at all, but ordinary unpredictability, the reason for which most often lies in the fact that the woman herself does not know what she needs from life. Her tossing takes its toll on her heart, and its rhythm begins to falter.

The fluctuations of life also lead to fluctuations in the heart rate. This is why tachycardia can suddenly appear in adolescents and young adults. After all, it is during these periods that people search for themselves, choose a path, profession, friends, and reconsider their hobbies. If these active searches are accepted by others calmly, as a given, then complications with the heart can be avoided. But if a person during the period of tossing does not find help and support from the outside world, he begins to feel lost and alone, experiences fear from the future unknown, and the heart reacts with arrhythmias.

Don't panic during an arrhythmia

A couple of years ago I didn’t know anything about arrhythmia. But suddenly I felt all the horror and panic. What to do? How to calm your heart? Maybe this is the end? You rush from side to side, and this is also a stressful state. I began to wonder what this heart is missing? The answer is simple - oxygen!

You can lie down, but it is better to sit up, remaining under the covers - usually this terrible phenomenon occurs during sleep, at night, although it can also appear during the day. You need to take a deep breath, hold your breath for a few seconds, then exhale through your mouth: “Ha!” And do this 5-6 times in a row, listening to the heartbeat during the freezing period. After the second inhalation and exhalation, the heart slowly changes its rhythm - which means it helps. Breathe until your heart starts working normally, and then go back to sleep. This takes seconds. There is no need to panic and rush around the apartment. I don't drink anything and don't take pills at night. Everything is simple, but by panic we only complicate matters. Take care of yourself, stay healthy. Try it, maybe it will help you too!

After the thyme decoction I forgot about the medicine

Grandfather planted thyme. In July I trimmed the tops. I think, let me poison myself and brewed a pinch of thyme in a glass of tea and covered it with a saucer. I have not taken any medication for arrhythmia for a week now. I drink one glass in the morning and a glass an hour before bed. As the ancient Greeks said: “Cheap and cheerful.”

Arrhythmia is not scary with hawthorn

Hawthorn is considered the best remedy for arrhythmia, as well as for extrasystole - loss of pulse. This is despite the fact that its effect becomes noticeable only two months after the start of treatment.

The fact is that hawthorn can be taken without interruption for a long time, for years, and all because the active substances of this plant are not addictive and do not accumulate in the body. For heart patients, this is God's gift.

Hawthorn prevents premature fatigue of the heart muscle and improves its function. It has a beneficial effect on the function of vascular walls and the level of venous pressure. Improves oxygen supply to brain neurons and significantly reduces cholesterol levels in the body. In many cases it works better than foxglove.

Fruits are used, as well as fresh flowers and leaves. Hawthorn flowers are more active than the fruits. It has been noted that pharmaceutical alcohol tincture is less effective than aqueous extract.

Preparation:

— dried flowers are brewed at the rate of one tablespoon per glass of boiling water and drunk as tea up to three glasses a day;

- fruits, in the amount of 30 pieces, pour a glass of boiling water and boil over very low heat for 15 minutes. Leave for at least half an hour. Drink the resulting decoction throughout the day.

In oriental medicine

In medicine in eastern countries, in particular Chinese, they use not only berries, but also leaves of the bush for laxative and emetic effects. In addition, many Eastern doctors prescribe the fruits and juice to people with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy. Their regular use opens the pores, thereby facilitating the removal of waste and toxins, which helps improve blood flow.

In the East, red viburnum is added to many cosmetics; it is especially often included in shampoos, masks and facial lotions. After all, the berry has an antiseptic, drying effect, so at home those with oily, problem skin can wipe their face with viburnum juice.

Possible contraindications

Since ancient times, people in Rus' have loved to say that there is no illness that cannot be cured by viburnum. Can not argue! But any medicine, even folk medicine, can turn into poison - it’s a matter of dosage. Not to mention that viburnum is not suitable for everyone. In addition to hypotension, the plant is contraindicated:

  • people in whom fruits may cause an allergic reaction;
  • representatives of the fair sex before childbirth and during lactation;
  • those suffering from acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract - especially not recommended for gastritis with high acidity;
  • with thrombophlebitis or a tendency to block blood vessels.

It is also not recommended to drink viburnum juice before a long trek due to its powerful diuretic effect.

Be healthy!

A little botany

Red or common viburnum is a perennial shrub up to 4 meters high. Loves floodplain forests, undergrowth, swamps and banks of reservoirs in the temperate climate zone.

It blooms for 2-3 weeks, starting from the end of May, with lush white or slightly pinkish inflorescences. In their place, by the end of summer, clusters of bright red, less often black or yellow, juicy berries ripen. Ripe fruits remain on the branches until frost, decorating the forest and helping birds survive the winter.

The leaves are carved, three-lobed, up to 10 cm wide, and in the fall they are colored with bright orange and purple colors.

The value of viburnum is that all parts of the plant have a healing effect. Among more than 160 species of viburnum, there are not only medicinal, but also ornamental shrubs. They are used in landscape design to create hedges and delight the eye with rich flowering.

Geography and origin

Our country has known this plant since ancient times. In Russia it is widespread almost everywhere, although it has its own preferences:

  • Humid environment. You can find shrubs not only along small rivers, but also in swampy areas.
  • Coniferous forests. The denser the forest, the greater the likelihood of seeing red fruits there.

However, it cannot be said that the plant is whimsical. It is well adapted to the harsh climatic conditions of central Russia. Gourmets recommend starting to collect the “harvest” with the onset of the first frost. The cold drives out all the bitterness and acid from the berries.

Only the fruits are considered edible, but this does not mean that the remaining parts of the bush have not found use in human life. The bark, roots and leaves of the plant are actively used. All of them are rich in healing properties, and therefore serve as excellent raw materials for the preparation of many medicines.

Dangerous properties of viburnum and contraindications

Despite the benefits, there are certain dangerous properties of these berries. In particular, viburnum has contraindications, because the components of the plant may not be suitable for everyone.

Before using berries as a remedy, people with the following diseases should be careful:

  • liver and kidney diseases;
  • gastritis, ulcers;
  • arterial hypotension;
  • allergies (for example, to high levels of vitamin C);
  • excessive production of gastric juice,
  • blood diseases (for example, high coagulability, thrombosis).

Pregnant women can also experience significant harm from viburnum, since the berries contain many components identical to female hormones. An increase in them in the female bloodstream can adversely affect the developing fetus. In severe cases, the composition of viburnum can lead to miscarriage.

How to store for the winter?

There are a number of ways to preserve berries for a long time. These include:

  1. Freezing. The most useful option, since frozen viburnum retains almost all vitamins and antioxidants. To do this, the berries are laid out on a tray and frozen for 8 to 12 hours. Then the fruits can be poured into a bag and stored in the freezer for up to a year.
  2. Grinding with sugar . Leads to a significant loss of the biological potential of berries. To prepare, you need to pass the berries through a meat grinder or beat with a blender and mix with sugar in a ratio of 1:2. Store in glass jars with a tightly closed lid in the refrigerator for up to two to three months.
  3. Jam. The scope of healing properties is almost the same as the previous version. To prepare, you need 1 kg of berries and 1 kg of sugar, pour 360 ml of boiling water. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Cool the jam, then bring to a boil again and cook for another 5 minutes. Roll into pre-sterilized jars.
  4. Drying. Increases the concentration of fiber and sugar several times, while significantly reducing the content of vitamins and antioxidants. The berries should be placed on a tray in the oven and dried at 60°C for 4–6 hours. Store in a dry place for six months.
  5. Tincture. To prepare you will need: 200 viburnum juice, 200 ml of water, 400 grams of sugar and 700 ml of vodka. All components are mixed in a glass vessel, which must be left in a cool, dark place for 72 hours. Viburnum tincture retains a significant amount of vitamins, but contains virtually no polyphenols.

It is important to note that jam, as well as viburnum pureed with sugar, should not be consumed if you have diabetes or obesity. Dried fruits are subject to a similar ban.

The tincture is not recommended for use in cases of coronary heart disease and arterial hypertension.

There are several basic ways to store berries for a long time. The most useful is freezing.

How to choose viburnum berries

Modern gardeners are divided into two camps: some believe that they need to pick berries immediately after they turn red, without greenery or unnatural specks, while others focus on the time of picking - after the first frost. Then the bitterness disappears, and sweetness appears with a slight tart note and a drop of bitterness.

We recommend that when purchasing or picking, look at the color of the berries: they should have a bright, rich red tint, no pink reflections. Inhale the aroma of the berry; it should be sour and sweet, with a slightly tart aroma. You need to collect or buy it after frost, when it loses its bitterness. Plus, berries picked after frost accumulate more useful micro- and macroelements than when picked before the outside temperature dropped.

Collection and storage

The fruits reach full maturity in September or October. This is evidenced by their uniform red color. But at this time, the berries still retain a bitter taste, which disappears after the first frost, so it is advisable to harvest the fruits at the end of October or early November.

You need to pick berries on the branches, completely preserving their stalks. To do this, they are cut with pruning shears and placed in a basket so as not to damage their integrity. You cannot pick the berries separately: in this case, the skin will burst and the juice will leak out.

The clusters can be hung in the attic or dry basement. In this form they will retain their freshness for several months.

If there is no unheated room, viburnum can be stored in the refrigerator, in the lower section, or frozen in the freezer and defrosted as needed. Before freezing, the berries need to be washed, dried and the stalks removed. Then they are laid out in the freezer in one layer and periodically turned over to ensure even freezing. When the berries become hard, they are transferred to a container convenient for storage.
