You have all heard about the incredibly beneficial effects of a contract shower. How many of you take it? And do you know how to do this? So, a contrast shower is a type of hardening, a water procedure using alternately cold and hot water.
Adviсe:
- immediately tune in to regularity; for a healing effect, the procedure must be carried out daily;
- It is better to start in the warm season, in the morning, when you are healthy (in the absence of inflammatory diseases - cystitis, sinusitis, sore throat, runny nose, fever), you should not start during menstruation;
- at first you can pour only your feet, and then your whole body;
- you should start gradually, first take a comfortable shower with one slight temperature difference (contrast), then increase the temperature difference and duration;
- The water should be cold, not tepid. Otherwise, you will simply freeze, but you need to put your body under stress;
- pour over the entire body, do not linger in one place, wet your face before the procedure;
- a surge of strength and energy, a good mood after a shower is a sign that you did everything right. Important! If you have chills, frozen hands or feet, you are doing something wrong!
- Keep in mind that contrast showers should be taken with caution in certain diseases (hypertension, cerebrovascular accident, thrombophlebitis and others).

Contrast shower: benefits, harm, contraindications and how to take it correctly
It’s difficult to find healthy people these days: even among doctors, the term most often used is “conditionally healthy person.” And it’s not to say that people don’t want to be healthy - many of us want to feel cheerful throughout our whole body, and wake up every morning in a great mood, but only a few can boast of this; however, when it comes to hardening or proper nutrition, there are few people willing to change their usual lifestyle. Meanwhile, there is one method of hardening that is available to almost every person in our time - a contrast shower. No one will deny that today there is a shower in almost every home - you can arrange one for yourself even in a village where there is no centralized water supply, but there are many benefits from it, and even weakened and sick people, having become accustomed to this procedure, after a few months begin to feel yourself cheerful and healthy.
The benefits of a contrast shower
Not everyone can decide to take a contrast shower.
– and in fact, in the first days it does not cause any pleasant sensations, but only tension and discomfort.
Theoretically, everyone knows that this procedure helps to invigorate the entire body and strengthens the immune system. improves blood circulation and skin condition, helps get rid of cellulite and even lose weight, but most of us find dozens of reasons to justify our reluctance to start taking a contrast shower. It’s probably worth finding out better what a contrast shower .
and what this procedure is before abandoning it. A contrast shower is not only vivacity, energy and protection from colds, it is a workout for the whole body
. Muscles, tendons, blood vessels, capillaries, cells are trained - everything that is in our body, and metabolism begins to occur much faster - which means that excess weight does not linger for long. With regular use of a contrast shower, the body burns calories, and the skin and muscles, if they were flabby, become elastic again; Cellulite also disappears.
True, in order for it to disappear faster, some effort is required - you need to do a kind of massage with jets of water, in circular movements over the stomach and buttocks; legs in front - from top to bottom, and from behind - from bottom to top.
Most people do not like to take a contrast shower precisely because of the discomfort - of course, it is especially difficult for women to decide on this, since their skin is more sensitive and thinner. However, at first everyone who is not used to such procedures experiences discomfort, but this does not last long: after the 4th or 5th procedure everything returns to normal, and then the contrast shower becomes a habit, like gymnastics or brushing your teeth. To make it easier to get used to the contrast shower, you need to start the procedures in the summer, and then by winter you will already feel stronger and healthier, and it will be more difficult for colds to “catch on” to you.
How to take a contrast shower correctly
How to take a contrast shower correctly?
First, you need to tune in and calm down, then find a fairly hard towel - soft terry towels, the softness of which we are so accustomed to, are not suitable for such a procedure. After a contrast shower, you need to rub yourself very vigorously, not only to dry the skin, but to increase blood circulation, since the last douche should always be cold - this is a prerequisite for the procedure.
At the very beginning, the water should be warm, and then hotter: it should be added gradually, but in no case should you endure and scald yourself - the body should be moderately relaxed, and not tense. You need to stand under almost hot water for about a minute, and then suddenly turn on the cold water - you need to stand under it for 30 seconds longer, but you shouldn’t strive for this right away either - the time should be increased gradually. The same applies to lowering the water temperature - you don’t need to immediately make the water ice cold, but you need to lower its temperature constantly, slowly and gradually, over the course of a whole month. During one contrast shower, you need to sharply change the water temperature from 3 to 5 times; finish the shower with cold water and quickly rub yourself with a hard towel until the skin turns pink.
In general, this is all, but there are some more subtleties.
There is no need to expose your head to a contrast shower
– even a person who considers himself healthy can experience pressure drops, serious colds or inflammatory processes from such a shake-up; While taking a shower, step from foot to foot so that your feet can also get their share of energy. You need to take a contrast shower every day – you can even do it twice; If you have a slight cold, you do not need to stop the procedures: the main thing is regularity.
In a few weeks, the immune system will become stronger, the activity of the endocrine system will improve, as will the condition of blood vessels and muscles. The skin of the whole body will become much fresher and younger, smoothness and elasticity will return to it - for this alone it is worth learning how to take a contrast shower . During the procedure, our skin seems to perform gymnastics: under the influence of hot water, the pores open, and under the influence of cold water, they close, and this happens several times in a row. It is clear that at this time blood circulation increases, blood vessels dilate, and waste and toxins are actively removed from the skin - which is why it becomes younger and healthier. The mood is excellent, the weight begins to tend to normal, and illnesses remain somewhere in the past; if at the same time you want to tone your facial skin. then after morning care and washing with warm water, wipe your face with ice cubes - from fruit water, green tea or infusion of medicinal herbs.
Harm of a contrast shower
In principle, it is already clear why a contrast shower is useful, but can it cause harm?
Of course, it can, like any medical procedure, if it is performed incorrectly. For the body of most people, a cold shower is very stressful, and for those who are often sick, it can even seem like torture. Therefore, many people, trying to reduce negative sensations and discomfort, douse themselves not with cold, but with cool water, about 19-18ºС, and as a result begin to suffer from colds and inflammation.
The fact is that such water cannot affect our body enough to turn on the protective mechanisms that “wake up” in extreme situations, but it can cool the body, so the chance of catching a cold is quite high - most beginners refuse to continue the procedure precisely for this reason, and Then they say that a contrast shower is not a pleasure for everyone. As soon as you have learned to tolerate a water temperature of about 20ºC, you must immediately suddenly switch to ice water - a short douse with such water will not have time to cool the body much, but the protective and other systems will work several times more actively - the nervous, and immune, and thermoregulatory, and etc.
Gradually you can learn to take a contrast shower approximately according to this scheme
. first warm water, then hot - as long as you like it, then cold - up to 30 seconds or more, then hot - 20-40 seconds, cold - more than a minute, hot - up to a minute, cold - as long as you like it. You should not tolerate water at any temperature at any cost - this will not lead to anything good.
Contraindications for contrast showers
Now about the fact that a contrast shower is not for everyone
. Most health procedures have contraindications - contrast showers also have them: you should not take it for acute thrombophlebitis, malignant tumors, diseases of the cardiovascular system and blood.
If you have hypertension, cerebral circulation disorders and vascular spasms, it is not recommended to take a contrast shower , but you can try it - with caution, if your doctor allows it. In general, for any chronic diseases, even if they have not manifested themselves for a long time, consultation with a doctor is necessary - so as not to cause harm to your health instead of benefit.
There is no need to start taking a contrast shower during inflammatory diseases - for example, cystitis or sore throat; during any exacerbations, as well as during menstruation.
It is best to take it in the morning, after exercise, but so that you do not have to go outside right away - try to time it so that half an hour or an hour passes after the procedure.

Contrast shower for hypertension
I really don’t know who owns the research (if any) on the benefits of contrast rain in the treatment, and possibly prevention, of arterial hypertension. If these are famous people, then please forgive me for my ignorance. I just express my own opinion on my website. In the end, I heard a lot about this, but practically in my fifty-eight years of life I have not encountered a single case of getting rid of arterial hypertension, or at least stabilizing blood pressure after this procedure.
I have not met and, perhaps, it is unlikely that I will, although I have never seen lovers of contrasting rain. Each of them had certain health problems. But following the biting advertising tricks, they decided to try the miraculous remedy on themselves. But so far they have tried without any success. Once upon a time, due to inexperience, I also practiced this healing procedure - although not for long. And then he became indignant: some kind of nonsense! Well, guys write articles about strengthening the immune system. But these are just articles! Writing is not difficult, and especially if there is a guarantee of publication, then you can write anything. But I am firmly convinced of one thing: a contrast shower will never bring relief from arterial hypertension. Well, the vessels will dilate, then they will narrow, then they will dilate again - the propagandists sound interesting: vascular tone is trained and blood pressure, although not immediately, returns to normal. The problem of high blood pressure is supposedly solved. The main thing is that you just need to start practicing and experimenting with cold and warm water. But this is all just philosophy.
For some reason, it seems to me that people are writing about this who don’t believe in it themselves. In case of stable hypertension, reducing blood pressure with a contrast shower sounds, if not serious, then certainly unconvincing. A hot shower - you can believe it: many resort to this in case of need. Just cold water – verbiage: I personally have been practicing with cold water for a number of years.
I have measured my blood pressure many times and know very well the body’s reaction to an extreme factor. And cold water is a truly extreme factor. But for some reason it’s so arranged in society that if there is some article by a respected person, then you have to believe it blindly. It doesn’t matter that everything is built on personal wisdom. The important thing is that the article is written and it says something about high blood pressure. Otherwise, I’m tired of these medicines - after all, chemistry, and herbs are of no use. And here everything is close, dear, and most importantly, you don’t have to go outside. Alternately pour cold and hot water on yourself and get a healing effect.
In my book “Essential Hypertension,” I talked about a similar case with one woman who, at the insistence of one professor, began to douse herself with cold water. I doused myself for a year, but got zero results. But right away she was inspired - she spoke about it pathetically. After all, the professor himself recommended it to her. But exactly a year later she told me that she was doing this in vain and that it was really impossible to get rid of arterial hypertension with cold water. But there was only cold water here. And if she had added hot water, then everything would have been fine. That's it: “if only”. Doesn't sound serious .
For some people, high blood pressure returns to normal if a person solves a sleep problem or changes jobs. There are any number of such cases! Perhaps someone, while solving a sleep problem, simultaneously practiced a contrast shower and got a positive result. This cannot be ruled out. But this is provided that arterial hypertension was at the initial stage of development. Such experimenters would try to join the soul if the hypertension is stable. I have no doubt that they would be disappointed very quickly. Although vegetative-vascular dystonia can go away without any intervention, there is no hypertension as such and you just have to streamline your lifestyle and everything almost magically returns to normal . Arterial hypertension is a very serious disease and requires a wise attitude. She resists medications, is very vulnerable to inadequate physical influence, is aggravated by the energy of a tactless word and is treated with rational psychophysical methods .
The main thing is to find at least a small piece of the Spirit within yourself, grab onto it and, following the original model of self-improvement, one day come to real recovery. Therefore, there is no need to be hypnotized by flashy advertising - there is more of it now than we would like, but, having your own opinion, decide on the choice of side.
